Your Pathway to Murdoch University.


If you have almost or just finished Year 11, or finished Year 12 with an ATAR lower than you expected or have a post high school qualification but unfortunately still don’t meet University entry requirements then we can help you.

Murdoch Institute of Technology helps bridge the gap from school to university and has a variety of programs and pathways to suit your individual academic needs and career goals. We have pathways suitable for both Australian and International students.

Accelerated University Entrance. 

Pathways to Murdoch University undergraduate degrees exist from our Murdoch University Preparation Course (MUPC) into the first year of most degrees at the University, and from our Diploma programs into the second year of a related Bachelors degree.

The Murdoch University Preparation Course (MUPC) is also designed to articulate with a Diploma course to provide students with a rapid-progress route to a degree, without the burden of an excessive study load. Students who have completed Year 12 at school, can complete a Bachelor degree (in selected streams) more than six months sooner than it would have taken in the traditional timeline. Year 11 students with can save themselves up to a year of study time.

Where to start?

Students can start studying an MIT program whether it be MUPC or one of our Diploma’s in February, June or October each year, entering from either from Year 11, Year 12 or with a post high school qualification. Students should decide what degree is of interest to them so that a suitable study plan can be created. Our staff at MIT are able to offer advice on unit selection to suit a students aspirations.


Murdoch University Preparation Course.

The number of units a student will need to complete will depend on their prior learning and the appropriate subjects will depend on their desired destination degree. The below however can provide some guidance as to what to expect.

MUPC Pathway to Murdoch University Year 1

Australian students who have completed year 12 with ATAR may only need to complete MUPC (3 units), those who have no ATAR might be required to complete four or six units. Mature age students who do not have the requisite university entry requirements are generally required to take three or four units, which can be completed over one or two trimesters. International students in most cases will need to complete MUPC (6 units) to ensure that the necessary subjects are covered, this time also allows students to adapt to their new learning environment.

Diploma Pathway to Murdoch University

Successful completion of a Diploma provides a pathway to Murdoch University Year 2

All students will have to complete 8 units which reflect the learning outcomes of the first year of the corresponding undergraduate degree.  Successful completion of the diploma to the required standard will allow students to progress seamlessly into Year 2 of the pre-selected degree and major.
