Overview

There are many different pathways to University. Our Murdoch University Preparation Course (MUPC) will help you to gain entry into the degree you want, even if you don’t currently meet standard entry requirements. We’re here to support you in your new direction.

With three intakes per year and a variety of subjects, you can choose the timing and course structure that works best for you. At MIT, you get to experience life on Murdoch University campus while you transition into study.

After successfully completing your MUPC, you will gain direct entry into the first year of your chosen undergraduate degree at Murdoch University.

MUPC is suited to you if:

  • You need an entrance qualification for Murdoch University
  • You want to accelerate your university preparation from either Year 11, Year 12 or equivalent
  • You want to change your degree stream without having to repeat Year 11 or Year 12

Pathways to any Degree

On completion of your MUPC, you’ll gain entry to first year of any undergraduate degree at Murdoch University, with the exception of a Bachelor of Veterinary Science. This course can be accessed through a Bachelor of Animal Science.

Personalised Streams

You are encouraged to select units according to your interests and preferred Murdoch University bachelor degree destination. Academic staff at MIT will assist in the selection of units and provide you with a personalised study plan at the time of enrolment.

Recognition of Prior Learning

The MUPC requires completion of a total of six units. National principles of Recognition for Prior Learning (RPL) are applied to give appropriate credit and exemption for units. This avoids unnecessary duplication of study and allows those who have previously undertaken tertiary entrance studies and examinations, or mature age students, to be given up to three credits and exemptions. Prospective students should discuss their potential RPL with academic staff at the time of enrolment.

Students can progress from the MUPC to any stream at Murdoch University.

The most popular degrees and majors include: Animal Science, Biomedical Science, Business, Chiropractic Science, Computer Science, Education, Engineering, Hospitality and Tourism Management, Law, Nursing and Psychology.

At MIT there are three different MUPC programs available, each with a different course structure. Which program you choose will depend on your academic qualifications, English proficiency and preferred Bachelor’s degree at Murdoch University. You can expect to complete between three and six units of study, depending on which program you undertake.

For your MUPC, you will study a combination of core and elective units. The units you will undertake will be determined by your chosen degree. Each unit of study builds concepts from an introductory level through to University entrance level. The units are designed to develop your learning techniques as well as bridging gaps in your subject knowledge.

Murdoch University Preparation Course 6 (MUPC 6)

If you have successfully completed year 11 or the international equivalent and meet the English entry requirements, this course is for you. The MUPC 6 program includes six units, which may be completed over two or three trimesters.

Murdoch University Preparation Course 4 (MUPC 4)

If you have finished year 12, with no ATAR subjects, this course is right for you. The MUPC 4 program has four units which may be completed over two trimesters.

Murdoch University Preparation Course 3 (MUPC 3)

If you have successfully completed year 12 but didn’t get the best results, or you have received the international equivalent of completing year 12 and you meet the English entry requirements, then this is the right course for you. The MUPC 3 program is an accelerated course made up of three units, which may be completed over one trimester.

Australian Students

  • Successful completion of Year 11 (50% pass in English).
  • Successful completion of a Certificate III.
  • Entry into the MUPC may be possible on successful completion of three terms of Year 11. Applications are considered on a case-by- case basis. Please check with MIT for more details.

International Students

Academic entry

  • International equivalent to completion of Year 11 requirements

English language requirements*

Students may apply for the MUPC if they meet the appropriate scores in one of the following assessments.

  • 50% pass in English
  • 60% pass in English for Academic Purposes
  • IELTS: 5.5 average (no band less than 5.0)
  • General Certificate of Education (GCE) 0 Level: D minimum
  • TOEFL
    • Paper-based – 527, or
    • IBT – 46
  • Pearson Test of English: 42
  • Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE): 162
